20 February, 2017 — Hey! I’m out skiing. Sorry I can’t be here, will catch up tomorrow. As we celebrate Presidents’ Day in honor of the 40-some individuals who have served our country, I think about the acrimony in the last few decades, what to do…well, nothing I can do, nor want to do, about political stuff.
But we can set an example, do the best we can wherever we’re at. I recently heard a popular song from my youth that was done to the tune of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, hadn’t heard for years. Decades probably! Song of Joy was a brief hit for a guy named Miguel Rios in 1970, and it included the following lyric:
No man must stand alone with arms outstretched before him
Reach out, and take them in yours with love that endures forever more
Then sing a song of joy
For love and understanding
…well I’m not seeing any of that on either side of the aisle, but we can certainly do that, and I guarantee you’ll make someone’s day!
