Gotta Love October Skiing

Well it was a bit odd that Loveland Colorado (the ski area, not the town) hasn’t said anything about opening day, until today that is. Just announced that the lifts will spin up on the divide this Saturday, as in the day after tomorrow. Huzzah! Under-rated and under-appreciated, it’s the only place I can think of where you can ski under an Interstate highway. Kudos also to Loveland for figuring out how to staff the place — since nobody can afford to live anywhere near Summit County on a ski bum payroll, they’re leasing out and refurbishing an old motel down the road in Idaho Springs for employees to live on the cheap…How bad is the housing problem in Summit County? Town of Breckenridge is actually paying people to take their houses off of Airbnb and lease to local employees. You can’t ski if nobody works the lifts, Vail Resorts proved it last season at Wildcat and Attitash…speaking of Summit County, Arapahoe Basin is re-introducing the $39 Friday afternoon ticket, easily the best deal out there. Keep in mind you gotta buy online, in advance. Hey if you’re in the mood to be spacin’ at the basin more often, they have some wicked awesome wallpapers on their website, click here. Photo above is from that collection; all the photography is awesome…update from Mammoth, CA, as we reported they’ll be opening tomorrow, now the word is they’ll be going top-to-bottom off the Panorama gondy…shout out to the tech monsters at Ski Barn in Wayne, NJ. They fix the boots that the hacks don’t fit correctly…back to California, Boreal just chimed in, they’ll be open tomorrow.
