First Tracks & Killington in the Books

Yesss! Photo above taken this morning in one of the great ski regions in the eastern USA, better known as suburban New Jersey, where my buddy Chris clicked into his old 200 cm K2s for a quick lap of freshies…the northeast pounded by this storm, Mount Snow VT the big beneficiary with close to two feet of free snow, it has enabled Sneaux to pretty much double their early season trail count…move up north a bit, Killington still glowing from its now annual FIS World Cup event on the Superstar trail. Believe it or not these tech events draw the biggest crowds on the women’s calendar, probably boosted by the current popularity of Sunday’s slalom winner, Mikaela Shiffrin. Saturday was dominated by the Tricolore, as Italians Marta Bassino and Federica Brignone notched first and second in the GS event, with Shiffrin rounding out the podium. This was Bassino’s first cup win, notable also because Shiffrin has yet to win a Superstar GS. Men meanwhile were in Lake Louise Canada for a pair of speed events. Germany’s Thomas Dressen returned to his winning ways in the downhill, Austrian Matthias Mayer was quickest in GS, and Italy’s Dominik Paris was bridesmaid for both…back to the resort biz, state-owned Whiteface Mountain in NY was the scene of an overnight fire this weekend, destroyed the classic mid-mountain a-frame lodge that stood for decades…looking west, a dearth of snow in the Idaho/eastern Washington region has most resorts sitting idle; locals were pleased to have Schweitzer Mountain open on the first of December but it remains the one and only…
