Encore Weekend on the way

This is the time of year when the non-destination resorts have banged it up for the season, but in some cases the snow keeps lingering. In other cases, a rare April storm blankets the shrinking snowpack. And so the “last gasp, last chance, last day we’re gonna reopen” message goes out to the hopeful faithful who aren’t quite ready to tackle the spring clean up chores. Whatever the cause, we’ll take it! Photo above from Montage Mountain in northeast Pennsylvania, they’re one of the myriad resorts in the northeast that are going to spin ’em one more time this Saturday. Not thinking this particular run will be open, but who knows…coverage is no such problem at California’s Homewood Mountain Resort up in Tahoe area, they’ve topped the 600″ mark this season…lift problems at Lutsen Mountains Minnesota this past weekend, they had some sort of circuit go awry on the Caribou Express 6-pack. I’m told they did an evac, not sure if it was ropes & harnesses or just emergency unload, as the lift was back up and running in an hour according to Lutsen management. Anyway, they’re gonna be open for a while, albeit on a limited schedule…elsewhere in the Land of 10,000 Lakes we’ve got one last hurrah Saturday at Wild Mountain, $25 tix…Utah’s popular Snowbird Resort grabbed 6″ of fresh overnight, they’re running all 11 lifts today…add West Mountain New York to the list of surprise reopenings this weekend, they say they’ll do it one more time on Sunday the 7th.
