Closings coming fast and furious as the arctic temps set in across the heartland. Northeast, however, conditions are prompting the weekend-only resorts to spin lifts today and tomorrow. Among those opening for a rare weekday appearance are West Mountain NY (photo above) and Magic Mountain VT. West opened this afternoon at 3:00 and Magic sez they’ll crank it up tomorrow at 9:00 AM. No word yet from Plattekill NY although I suspect they’ll announce a powder day shortly…quite the opposite deal in the midwest, Mad River Mountain Ohio has announced they’ll be shuttered tomorrow for the deep freeze…Trollhaugen Wisconsin taking it even further, they’re banged up today through Thursday, back in action Friday…back to the northeast for a bit, we have to say kudos and sincere thank you to Sugarloaf Maine, hosting Special Olympians the past couple days…FIS news, Marcel Hirscher back to his winning ways with a blistering victory in the Schladming night slalom…back tomorrow with a full report, including lift updates from Waterville Valley NH and Wintergreen VA…photo above courtesy West Mountain NY…shout out to any ski resort/industry news researchers, etc. I’ve been busy re-compiling the archives of this blog in its various formats, will have all of it accessible soon.
