4/9/18 If it’s April, this must be mid winter

News of the day? A lot of resorts are closing with mid-winter conditions, east and west, and everything in between. Fortunately we had Sam Shirley, our New England correspondent, on the scene at Mount Abram in Maine and Magic Mountain in Vermont. Both mid-sized resorts banged it up this weekend with more snow than they had in February. Sad, but conditions were awesome according to Sam…

This weekend felt a lot like early March. I spent Saturday at Mount Abram which had 4-6 inches of new blower powder and all trails open (except a few on the Westside which had closed for the season). The first hour was amazing skiing the untracked pow on a firm, but not icy base. Later, the day transitioned to perfect spring skiing with clear skies and soft moguls. On Sunday I skied Magic on their last day of the year. There was still some of that new snow around, but moguls had begun to get icy. The woods remained fun and groomed trails were perfect.
