Photo above is our buddy and SkiBum.net correspondent Bill O’Hara enjoying fabulous conditions this morning at Windham Resort in New York’s Catskill region…Not a game-changer but news just the same: Boyne Resorts has agreed to buy six of the ski resorts that it currently operates and leases from Ski Resort Holdings, LLC, which is actually part of Och-Ziff Real Estate. Boyne is going to buy Brighton Resort, UT; Cypress Mountain, BC; Loon Mountain, NH; Sugarloaf and Sunday River, ME; and The Summit at Snoqualmie, WA. They will also be buying the Gatlinburg TN Sky Lift tourist attraction. The deal should close later this year….regret to report that 20-year-old snowboarder Euna Shin, of Piscataway, NJ passed away yesterday approximately 24 hrs after suffering a fall at Blue Mountain in Pennsy. Ms. Shin was wearing a helmet at the time, and officials believe nobody else was involved in the accident…also just announced, 37-year-old Derek Cressey of Windham, ME died of injuries after hitting a tree on the Northstar trail at Breckenridge, Colorado, on March 8. Mr. Cressey was an avid skier, in fact made turns with wife Erica at Sunday River just prior to their wedding a few years ago…they say this stuff happens in threes, and they are correct. An unidentified 70-year-old skier died this past Friday after crashing at Deer Valley. Authorities at the upscale Utah resort say the man was skiing with a private group when he collided with a pole on a race course…hey the snow at Deer Valley is terrific right now…Sweden won the team event in the World Cup finals today, kind of fitting since it is being contested in Are. Season wraps up this weekend with tech events. Not sure when they last held a giant slalom in Are, but the defending winner is listed as Lindsey Vonn — didn’t expect to see that, as GS is historically her least successful discipline.
