11/28/17 Snow or Not

The Miller’s Landing Development in Castle Rock, CO (that’s near Denver, head south toward the Springs and look for a big rock) is slated to include a year-round outdoor snowsports complex with synthetic surface skiing. The venue, said to be named Snowsports 365, will be located on a former landfill and is intended to accommodate up to 400 skiers and riders per hour. The development group includes Crown Community Development, which is part of Henry Crown and Co., owners of Aspen Skiing Company (aka SkiCo). Spokesman sez they’re targeting fall of 2019 for opening, however, they’ve got to do an enviro clean up on the site so that might be optimistic…kudos to our friends at the New England Ski Industry website who broke the story about problems jeopardizing the deal to sell Maine’s Saddleback Resort to a group based in Australia. The news was picked up by Portland Maine’s NBC affiliate, and with some further digging, appears that the whole arrangement is tottering…back to Colorado, photo above taken this morning at the base of Steamboat, speaks volumes about early season conditions in much of the state.
