6 March 2017 — A-Team reports from Arapahoe Basin Saturday, talk about ups and downs, the duo scored a number of days this season at the Basin and until this weekend seemed snake bit — nothing but flat light, clouds, blinding snow, marginal conditions every time. Well Saturday that lucky ol’ sun shone upon them and they ran laps on Pally, absolutely thrilled with conditions…Ski Homewood CA, the snow is coming down and the base is piling up; this is another one of those “dig out the chairlift” days. After 41″ in two days, Homewood is on limited opening, working on the southern base area/Quail chair this morning…up at Boreal CA 38″ in two days, limited to Castle Peak and 49er this morning, working on Accelerator…Montage Mt PA was down last week due to power outtages, but their back up and skiing very nicely…Mad River Mountain OH operations are suspended right now through at least Wednesday, they hope to be back up for the weekend, same deal further north at Boston Mills, Brandywine, and Alpine Valley OH…Snowbird UT definitely up; 13″ in 12 hours…Marcel Hirscher clinched the Men’s overall in Kransjka Gora; he won the GS and finished 4th in slalom this weekend, I’ll update more with a World Cup Wednesday this week…Ladies meanwhile were testing the future Olympic route in Jeongseong, which you can rename Sophiaseong for now. Sophia Goggia claimed top step in both speed events, followed by Lindsey Vonn and Ilka Stuhec, yes — both events…fire reported this weekend at Snow Ridge in central NY, did damage to an apartment and probably the restaurant but ski ops are unaffected…way upstate NY Titus Mountain reopened today, back with a vengeance. They put their snowmaking and grooming fleet out this weekend rather than open with a crappy product, and the efforts have paid off nicely — 14 trails ready for Quebec and Ontario vacation weeks…spring is mostly here, personal fave throwback Ski Cooper in CO now offering $30 Thursdays, can’t beat that…up in Steamboat Springs, town ski area Howelsen Hill offering free skiing this coming Sunday, March 12…and finally it’s up up up at Mt Bachelor, Mark & Evan reporting powder conditions all weekend long, only downer being that the summit isn’t open due to visibility/hazardous conditions/wind etc etc. Conditions elsewhere on the hill look tremendous, go get it!
