25 November 2016 — I don’t like shopping malls, I don’t like waiting in line, and I don’t like buying gifts for people who have way more stuff than they need. So grab your skis and boots and get yourself to the car because I will leave without you…it’s the biggest opening day in terms of numbers so far this season, and a big day for terrain expansion, so time to go!…first a tip of the hat to Steamboat, they did their annual scholarship day Wednesday in which everybody pays for a ticket — even passholders — and monies go to the Steamboat Winter Sports Club scholarship fund. The ‘boat never announces the price until the day of, and this year tix were twenty bucks. So that’s a win-win all the way around and glad Steamboat does that…so of all the openings, biggest most unexpected and unusual has to be Pennsy’s Big Boulder opening today at 3:00 PM with a park or something. Their plan is to remain open for Saturday and Sunday from 10:00am -8:00pm with $25 lift tickets and then close midweek until the ball really gets rolling…nearby Shawnee Mountain has fired up their snow guns, so things must be a bit chilly in the Poconos…in Vermont, Bromley opens this morning, they’re set to spin the Sun Mountain Express and Alpine Double serving Upper & Lower Twister, Route 100, Spring Trail, and maybe Corkscrew…across the valley, Stratton opens this morning also with top-to-bottom service…up north in the Green Mountain state Jay Peak is set to crank it up today, they’ll be running the Jet with skiing on the Jet. Not sure why they don’t offer more as hordes of people have been earning their turns all over the hill for the past week…Pac NW, Mt. Bachelor set to open this morning…and a little not-so-good news, Michigan’s Caberfae Peaks has announced that they will not be able to open for the weekend despite a valiant effort by snowmakers. As a bit of a shout-out for those efforts, we leave you with an admirable photo of Caberfae above. Back Monday!
