22 November 2106 — Welcoming sign above to southeastern US skiers, and indeed this morning Snowshoe WV announced that they’ll drop the ropes on Friday. They’ve been getting snow off and on for the past few days to augment an outstanding effort by their mountain ops team…move north to Vermont and Stratton has confirmed a Friday opener…big news across the valley from Stratton, where up-and-down throwback area Magic Mountain is now officially owned and operated by Ski Magic LLC, a group of investors headed by long time Magic personality Geoff Hatheway. Deal finally went through yesterday. Let’s keep our tips crossed…follow up on yesterday’s report about Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows opener tomorrow, it will indeed be Alpine Meadows, spinning the Kangaroo chair…back to Vermont, Okemo and Mount Snow both opening tomorrow top to bottom, much better than expected…and tragedy this morning at small but mighty Nashoba Valley ski area in eastern Massachusetts, an employee killed apparently in an accident involving a grooming machine. No details yet; State & local police and OSHA are investigating. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, as well as Nashoba co-workers who are understandably devastated.
