9 November 2016 — Photo above shows the usual Mambo section of the early season route at Loveland, and as of 4:30 RMT it appears that indeed they will open for the season tomorrow…not so positive if you go through the tunnel and down the hill to Keystone and Breckenridge, yesterday they postponed opening day “indefinitely.” That must’ve pissed a lot of passholders off, because today they turned around and announced that lifts will spin on the 18th at Keystone….same deal a couple miles down I-70 to Copper; they’re generally in full pre-season race training by now, but instead are talking about opening on the 18th…tomorrow is also go day at California’s Mammoth, they’ve got a six inch base at the base (ugh) but 12 inches at McCoy Station and 36 inches at the summit. Mammoth sez they’ll run three lifts and serve up tix for fifty bucks…backlash to the program cuts at University of Alaska, if you recall we reported that all skiing programs — alpine and nordic — will be dropped due to a budget shortfall. Well a website has taken shape, and protests are planned for tomorrow at both the Fairbanks and Anchorage campuses.
