4 November 2016 — State of Vermont celebrated Stowe Resort’s historic CCC “Stone Hut” atop Mt. Mansfield officially reopening for overnight guests, rebuilt after a disastrous fire last year caused by the Carpenter family of Burton Snowboard fame. To their credit the Carpenters covered the deductible and then some. I picked on Jake when he was advocating trespassing with that absurd poaching bounty a few years ago, and I picked on him when this thing burnt down. So now I have to give props for doing the right thing, and that’s cool. VT Governor Shumlin held a press conference at the newly rebuilt structure yesterday…news out of nearby NH, according to New England Ski Industry website seems that state-owned and operated Cannon Mountain‘s revenue was off by about a third last season…Peak Resorts says they’ll start firing up the guns for testing at their Pennsy operations, notably Jack Frost ski area, on Tuesday. Peak has already been blowing at Wildcat NH…some unexpected news out of Norway, seems FIS World Cup slalom star Henrik Kristoffersen is suing Norges Skiforbund, the Norwegian ski federation, for not permitting him to sign a lucrative deal with Red Bull. The sponsorship would be similar to the one enjoyed by downhill great and teammate Aksel Lund Svindal, who has been cashing checks from Red Bull for years. Norges Skiforbund now mandates that all members of the national team display only the national team’s sponsors’ logos; hence the lawsuit. Svindal gets a pass on the rule because his deal was grandfathered in. Have a great weekend, think snow!
