19 October 2016 — Well it is “Beer Fest” season at your local ski resort, a lot of these are idiotic affairs with manic lines and grown men wearing pretzels on their necks. One that does stand out is this Saturday at New York’s Swain Resort, combined with some lift ticket deals they’ll have, definitely check that out if you’re in the area…in Utah head to Snowbird this weekend, donate three cans to Utah Food Bank or $6 to Wasatch Adaptive Sports and enjoy a free ride on the tram, can’t beat that…and if you live anywhere near Pennsy and know any 4th or 5th grade kids, they essentially ski almost anywhere in the Commonwealth for free this season (there is a modest $30 processing fee) via the Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association. They don’t even need to be residents, just ski there. Here’s a link for more information. Last year PSAA put some 10,000 kids on the slopes with this program…human remains found at Colorado’s Eldora Resort back in June have been identified as 83-year-old Ervin Mettler of Denver. Well, formerly of Denver. Anyway, friends say Mr. Mettler was camping in the area back in February when he passed away. Sounds like it was a pleasant way to go. We all do sometime…and Bibawak Minnesota’s Giants Ridge ski area has a new, $12 million lodge being readied for the season, they’ll have an open house type celebration this weekend. Giants Ridge usually opens the weekend following Thanksgiving.
