News Roundup 12/26/16

256 December 2016 — Happy Monday, looks like some post-Christmas blahs settling across the lower midwest as Boston Mills, Brandywine and Alpine Valley in Ohio have shut down for the weather in an attempt to preserve snow. Same deal slightly west in Indiana where Paoli Peaks has done the same…definite rain/snow line across the east, northern locales like Jay Peak VT enjoyed more snow, while banana belt locales like Camelback PA and Mountain Creek NJ got rain…men’s World Cup road show rolled into Santa Caterina Italy where first downhill training runs this morning saw Austrian Christof Innerhofer lay down fastest time. Good but meaningless effort by American Thomas Biesemeyer, he was fourth quickest…officials at the Lolo and Idaho Panhandle national forests say expansion plans at Montana’s Lookout Pass have reached the final review stage. The plans call for two new chairlifts on Eagle Peak west of Lookout, opening up some 700 acres over 14 new runs plus some glades on a 1,400-foot vert. Cool thing is Lookout is right on the Montana-Idaho border, and the plan calls for one new lift to be installed in each state. This would put Lookout Pass on a rather short list of two-state ski areas; one that comes to mind is Catamount which is on the MA/NY border. The application was first filed in 2009. Sheesh.
